Six days after iconic comedian Joan Rivers was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, today her daughter Melissa Rivers updated fans on the health of her 81-year-old mother. “My mother has been moved out of intensive care and into a private room where she is being kept comfortable,” Melissa’s statement read. “Thank you for your continued support.”
Joan Rivers was getting throat surgery done at an outpatient clinic in New York when she went into cardiac arrest on Aug. 28. Shortly after her arrival to Mount Sinai, doctors put her into a medically induced coma. Reports claim she was slowly getting out of the coma over the weekend with Tuesday as the day she’d be awake. Melissa Rivers didn’t address whether Joan is still in the coma or whether she’s still on life support.
Yesterday, E! announced it has suspended production on Fashion Police, the show on which Rivers co-hosts alongside Kelly Osbourne, Giuliana Rancic and George Kotsiopoulos. “We will not be producing a ‘Fashion Police’ this week or next as we await Joan and Melissa’s return in front and behind the camera,” the network announced. “E! will be airing two ‘E! From Fashion Week’ specials that will deliver the latest news and information from the highly-anticipated event.”
On Aug. 29 Melissa Rivers issued a second statement: “My mother would be so touched by the tributes and prayers that we have received from around the world. Her condition remains serious but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts as we pray for her recovery.”
