Ellanora B. Burns – Obituary | The Quad-Cities Daily


Ellanora B. Burns, 96, of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday. Ellanora was born in Lyndon, KS and lived on a farm with her husband of 69 years, Gilbert, and her daughter Beverly until moving to Mobile, AL in 1957. After moving to Huntsville in 1966 Ellanora worked at Redstone Arsenal for the Hercules Project Office and later as Legal Administrative Officer for MICOM. She retired after 30 years in Civil Service. She was extremely caring about her family and large circle of friends and neighbors. She was a member of Highlands Methodist Church for 40 years and then joined and attended Hillwood Baptist Church. She was active in her neighborhood civic association, a member of Red Hats Society, and especially looked forward to her weekly lunch and card games with her dear friends. The pride of her life was her family, especially her daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two nieces and their families. She was affectionately known as “Grandma” to all who met her. Mrs. Burns was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Burns; parents, Fay and Lottie Beatty; sister, Maxine Easton and son-in-law, Sidney Layne.


Survivors include her daughter, Beverly Layne of Huntsville; granddaughter, Susan Layne Bowden (Steve ) of Mason, Ohio; grandson, Steve Layne (Melissa) of Huntsville; great-granddaughters, Sarah, Lauren, and Elizabeth Bowden, and Emily and Melanie Layne; and nieces, Sherry Locke (Stan) of Derby, Kansas, Kathy Santee (Andy) of Atlanta, Kansas


Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Hillwood Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Charles Freeman and Dr. Paul Lamey officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
